March is deservedly designated as Women’s History Month when we recognize the victories, struggles, and stories of the women who have made our world what it is today. At MGM Resorts, supporting women and their careers is one way that we demonstrate our enduring dedication to diversity and inclusion.
Every March, in recognition of Women’s History Month, the company hosts “Women Inspiring Women.” It gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation to women who make a difference in the Las Vegas community—within our company and beyond. These women are leading the way in many respects, so it is our privilege to gather them together in celebration.
In addition, “Women Inspiring Women” holds another special purpose for our company. For the past 10 years, The MGM Resorts Foundation has hosted the Women’s Leadership Conference with one goal in mind: to change the lives of women. Each year at “Women Inspiring Women,” the proceeds from the conference are donated to a local nonprofit organization that serves women and children. This year, the Foundation donated $30,000 to Southern Nevada Children’s First, a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to provide Nevada’s homeless pregnant and parenting youth with the tools, skills and knowledge necessary to grow into independent adults and contributing members of the community.
Through events like “Women Inspiring Women” and the Women’s Leadership Conference, women from all walks of life are offered a variety of ways to advance their personal and professional lives, including networking opportunities, educational workshops and exposure to other women who can serve as role models, mentors. The tenth annual Women’s Leadership Conference will be held at MGM Grand on August 8 and 9.
I am proud that our company has been recognized for leadership in corporate governance by the Women’s Forum of New York with almost 30 percent of our Board, 51 percent of our company and 42 percent of our managers comprised of women.
We are also proud to be a founding supporter of Global Gaming Women with the mission of fostering stronger relationships between female executives, providing mentorship and networking opportunities, and delivering educational programs.
I’ve always been a believer that business, and our company, can be a force for good especially in activating diversity in economic activity. We are honored that we are among America’s Top Corporations for Women’s Business Enterprises as recognized by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
So it is at MGM Resorts that we not only understand the value and importance of recognizing specific History Months, we also believe that a good corporate citizen practices what it preaches every day, every month of every year. Diversity and Inclusion are essential to the long-term success of our company. These principles help us to establish a path to excellence and innovation in everything that we do. Our efforts, and our employees, all of us, reflect that message.
